Important Travel Update for Our Owners: European Union introduces new biometric Entry/Exit system (EES)

This month, the European Union has introduced a new biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) to strengthen border security and improve processing efficiency. The EES will replace traditional passport stamping for non-EU citizens travelling to the 29 countries within the Schengen Area.

WHO IS AFFECTED?

All non-EU visitors travelling to the Schengen Area for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) will be required to comply with the new EES process unless exempt.

What This Means for Passengers

To meet EU requirements, flyers must submit travel document information for all non-EU passengers prior to travel.  If you hold a passport or visa not previously provided to us, please share it at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure to ensure smooth processing and avoid any potential travel delays.

New Border Experience

On your first trip under the EES, border control will collect fingerprints and a facial image. Your entry and exit will be recorded digitally, tracking your 90-day stay allowance. For future trips, this stored biometric data will simplify and accelerate border checks.

Optional Preregistration

Some EU countries will offer the Travel to Europe mobile app, allowing travellers to preregister their travel document details and facial image before departure. If available for your destination, we recommend using the app for a faster border experience.

Implementation Timeline

12 October 2025 – 10 April 2026: Gradual rollout across EU airports. Travellers may encounter either the traditional passport stamp or the new biometric process during this time.

From 10 April 2026: All Schengen Area borders will exclusively use the EES.

We are closely monitoring the rollout of the EES and will continue to provide guidance to ensure your travel experience remains seamless.
